…and Pierre, you should have talked to Trump…
After posting my last piece, I went to the Gym, listening, of course, to the ‘news’,
starting with these two conversations:
Michael Ignatieff: Canada's election results aren't what they seem
and
"Poilievre's HUMILIATING Loss" - Canada ROCKED By Carney’s SHOCKING Election Win
The first is Freddie Sayers of Unherd, a center-left publication, interviewing Michael Ignatieff, a former Liberal party leader and now rector of George Soros’ Central European University. What makes the conversation interesting is the sleazy mastery of the globalist liberal narrative.
It is infuriating, but educational.
The second is Patrick Bet-David interviewing Viva Frei in a perfect match of American attitude and Canadian understanding of the election. In
In the segment starting @7:14 Viva Frei explains Poilievre’s cautious avoidance of touchy subjects and people with questionable reputation in his interview with Jordan Peterson because - wait for it - “He is smarter than that.”
Then Patrick makes the point that Trump is surrounded by ‘change agents’ while Poilievre only represents boring mediocrity.
If you also take the time to read @John Carter’s long take Post-Mortem for the Canadian Election you will know everything you ever wanted to know on the subject. Seriously, it is worth looking at just for its excellent illustrations, charts and memes, let alone its content.
And of course, my own post three days before the election voicing my issues with Poilievre and his milk toast cowardly niceness.
Once you go through all of that, they will still leave you with a questions: who and what is to blame?
Everybody is trying to explain what happened, trying to find someone or something to blame.
What is the answer? Quite possibly all of them.
Yes, the globalists planned the whole thing. Proroguing the parliament was NOT Justin’s idea.
‘Choosing’ Carney as the next party leader was NOT the party’s idea.
Destroying the NDP was NOT Singh’s idea. He had a good run and I am sure that he will be compensated for his ‘sacrifice’.
Yes, I have a hard time believing that there is no foul play in the process (four days later, the counting is still not done). Every one of those late results are turning out to favor the liberals. Must be sheer coincidence. This is the picture on Election’s Canada’s website:
Yes, a pencil. Not a pen, not a permanent marker, not a stamp, NOT ink. A pencil to protect election integrity. I had to demand a pen when I went to vote.
Ontario riding flips to Liberals after validation process
The melt-down of the NDP means that it is no longer an official party and the remaining members are considered independent and could freely walk across the aisle to join the liberal party. I wonder how many would be willing to do that for the promise of a cabinet position…..
I make a bold prediction that before the end of this month, one way or another, the Liberals will have a majority government that cannot be challenged for the next four years.
Yes, Pierre Poilievre is a perfect manifestation of cowardly mediocrity.
Yes, he was a lousy candidate with a lousy attitude. He gained popularity by not being Trudeau.
He lost, because being not-Carney was not enough.
Yes, Trump’s comments played a role in misdirecting attention from the real issues.
Yes, the ‘prank’ on the ballot in Poilievre’s riding was a clear election interference that should be criminally investigated but it will never be.
Yes, the media played an outsized role in the election. All major media outlets are dependent on the government for most of their income and protection from competition. Just like in the US, 99% of the media is liberal. Part of the conservative plan was cutting that lifeline.
Yes, the Canadian electorate is hopelessly brainwashed, incapable to understand what another four years of liberal rule will do to this country. This article explains the Canadian psyche in great detail.
Yes, the ‘post-national’ ideology advocated by Trudeau, the flooding of the country with millions of new immigrants was a major contributor both to the country’s problem and the outcome of the election. Canadians have never been secure in their national identity.
Canada was easily turned first into ‘multicultural’ then ‘post-national’ by the liberals and the woke left. Many of Canada’s problems could be resolved if it could figure out its identity.
….and YES, Quebec’s ‘Je me souviens’ identity issues are even worse than those of the rest of Canada.
As I said, I believe that all these aspects played a role. If I had to pick the top two, I would blame the middle-ground seeking, cowardly caution of Poilievre and the pathetic trollability of the electorate. Trump should have never been a factor in their voting decision. Besides, Carney is far more likely to sell us out than Poilievre.
What is your preferred explanation? What is your perspective? Who do YOU blame?
In the – for me unconceivable - case that you are happy with the outcome, how do you see Canada’s future?
Let me know in the comments.
The day after I finished this post, I learned that a conservative MP gave up his seat so that Poilievre can run in a by-election. This much was predictable. What makes it interesting is that the seat will be in Alberta. The implications could be quite interesting. Feel free to speculate about them, again, in the comments.
