The power of "law" in the Great White North
Last Summer I visited some friends in a Canadian cottage country. We stopped with them in a tiny country store where they introduced us to the owners, who were in Ottawa during the Canadian freedom convoy protest. I gave them my email address. A few days ago, I got this email with the above scan attached:
JM here we met last year at the ‘abc’– store.
As promised, I said, I had a piece of paper that I was abruptly given by what was supposed to be the Ottawa police.
You asked if you could have a copy. I just came across it and your business card at the same time. I don’t believe in coincidences. Everything happens as it should.

Ignite The light
The flyer is so unbelievably revolting, so preposterous that I had to check if it is real.
It is still up on the Ottawa Police web-site.
If you read my Substack, you know that when I was 19, I was locked up for nine months for sedition in communist Hungary. You know, in that ugly, oppressive, totalitarian system without personal freedoms.
But even in that communist, political show-trial, there was at least a pretense of legality. The crime was defined, a process was followed and the punishment was clearly prescribed in the law itself.
Read again the flyer, then let me translate it for you:
We ARE the power. We have power over You. Your only right is to obey. If we do not like what you do, say or think, we can destroy your life. Take all your property, make your life impossible. Take away your business and driver’s license. Take your bank account. We are the law and the law is what we say it is. Whenever, whatever.
This is pure gangster-style bullying, WORSE than the communism I escaped from in my twenties.
Invoking the emergency act gave the police the power to become judge, jury and executioner; all in the interest of serving the agenda of the ruling political party.
The notice starts with a lie:
“The Ottawa Police Service wants to inform you that under provincial and federal legislation, you will face severe penalties if you do not cease further unlawful activity and remove your vehicle and/or property immediately from all unlawful protest sites.”
The very essence of the Emergencies Act is the power to bypass ‘provincial and federal legislation’.
There is no ‘provincial and federal legislation’ that would allow the police to do what they were threatening to do in the flyer.
The most egregious is the threat for having minors around at the protest.
If you bring a minor (a person under 18) with you to an unlawful protest site, you may be charged and fined up to $5000 and/or potentially spend up to five years in prison.
What is the rational behind it? Where is the law to say that you can be locked up for up to five years for bringing a minor to a political protest?
In a way it is understandable. Nothing is scarier for the people in power than seeing happy and friendly people protesting while their children are having fun in the bouncy-castles. Teaching them early that disobedience can be fun.
It does not work well with image the government wants to create about their “fascist, racist, misogynist” parents “holding unacceptable views”.
They quite possibly believe that their boys are not girls and vice versa.
Still, what law would this fall under? What’s the crime in it? Child abuse?
What are THEY afraid of?
That spending some time with their parents in the company of the like-minded, and finding out how decent they all are, may interfere with THEIR brainwashing project a.k.a. public education?
That seeing police brutality may soften their love for the government?
What scares (and angers) me the most is the vagueness of the threats. The “shut the F-up and get the F-out, because if you don’t, we F-you up for good” attitude.
The ‘emergency’ measures, which is the rebranded version of the War Measures Act were withdrawn just days before the government would have to face some real scrutiny and likely abrogation, as it became obvious that it could not withstand such scrutiny.
How could you characterize a country where the police can produce a flyer like this (and two years later still running with it)? Not only did they get away with it then, they seem to be ready to do it again.
When a federal court found the invocation of the emergency measures unconstitutional, the government appealed. The Supreme Court, with a majority of liberal, political appointees, refused to hear the case (see Courting dictatorship). They declared the issue ‘moot’, because it is not happening right now.
This gave the government a license to do it again at any time. They can completely disregard constitutional restraints as long as they don’t do it for too long, and even that ‘too long’ will, of course, be open for interpretation.
What the government can be absolutely sure of is that there will be no repercussions.
The pathetic case against
was dismissed in January 2024, then just yesterday (September 30th 2024) his acquittal was overturned by an appellate court.And all of these cases and judicial decisions are just ripples of the coming tidal waves.
Elections don’t seem to matter either. Last Sunday there were elections in Austria.

Just like in France and Germany, through various political machinations, the winning party will most likely be prevented from governing.
Just like in France and Germany, the winners are labeled far-right extremists. Just like the republicans are in the USA.
Canada’s governing coalition fell apart recently. Sooner or later, we will have an election. If the Conservatives will not win a clear majority, the same thing will happen here.
The globalists, the EU, the champions of the Golden billion’s hegemonic power are slowly losing, but they are going down kicking and screaming.
The rise of the alternatives is unstoppable, but that will not stop the fight against them from becoming ever more vicious.
